Restore Lost Management Connection between the Host Switch and SBM
Restore Lost Management Connection
between the Host Switch and SBM
In normal operation, the SBM communicates with the HP zl switch in which
it is installed. This management connection allows you to access a CLI for the
SBM as well as for the module’s Services OS. It also enables the module and
switch LEDs to report on the SBM’s status. Finally, these communications are
required for the Media Gateway software system integrity and licensing
verification.
If your SBM loses the management connection with the switch, you will notice
that these functions fail. The primary reason for this problem to occur is that
the SBM’s WinPcap application, which it uses for the management connection,
is not functioning correctly. This can occur when someone installs a different
version of WinPcap or an application that uses WinPcap on the SBM. Such
installations are not supported. It also occurs if someone removes the appli-
cation that uses WinPcap, causing WinPcap to be removed as well.
If you are experiencing problems and someone has installed or removed
WinPcap from the SBM, you must restore the SBM’s WinPcap application.
Follow these steps:
1. If WinPcap has been removed, you must restore it. The required WinPcap
system file is backed up in the C:\HP\installers\espd\ directory. You must
copy this file to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers directory:
a. In the SBM remote desktop, open a Windows command prompt
window as an administrator.
b. Enter this command:
C:\>copy c:\HP\installers\espd\npf.sys c:\Windows\System32\drivers
