Add the Survivable Branch to the Lync Server Topology
Add the Survivable Branch to the Lync
Server Topology
As a CS Administrator, you must complete the following tasks before the SBM
is installed:
1. Define a branch site for the SBM’s site within a parent central site in the
Lync topology.
2. Add a Survivable Branch Appliance to the branch site.
• Specify the SBM’s FQDN for the server FQDN.
• For the IP/PSTN FQDN:
– If you are using the SBM’s internal PSTN gateway, specify the
SBM’s FQDN.
Important You must specify the SBM’s FQDN for the PSTN gateway and not the SBM’s
IP address.
– If you are using SIP trunking, specify the Internet telephony
service provider’s (ITSP’s) FQDN or IP address.
– If you are using SIP trunking primarily, but the SBM’s internal
PSTN gateway for backup, specify the ITSP’s FQDN or IP address
for now.
• When you add the Survivable Branch Appliance, you can choose
either Transport Control Protocol (TCP) or Transport Layer Security
(TLS) for the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) protocol, but TLS is
strongly recommended for security. You can specify any SIP port, but
if you choose a non-default port, you must tell the person who
configures the SBM that you have done so.
3. Publish the updated topology.
4. Set up voice routing policies and normalization rules for the branch site.
If desired, set up voice routing policies for other sites that egress traffic
through the SBM.
You can set up a variety of routing policies that egress PSTN calls through
the SBM’s PSTN connections and through PSTN gateways at other sites.
(The SBM automatically detects when a WAN failure prevents it from
using the remote PSTN gateways and adjusts the routing accordingly.)
Similarly, you can route calls from the central site through the SBM. In
