TMS zl Management and Configuration Guide ST.1.0.090213
2-69
Initial Setup in Routing Mode
Configure Management Access
7. If you selected Static do the following:
a. In the IP Address field, type an IP address for the TMS zl Module’s
virtual interface in dotted decimal format. For example, type
10.1.15.100.
To avoid configuration errors, ensure that this IP address is not the
same as the IP address for this VLAN on the switch.
b. In the Subnet Mask field, type the subnet mask in dotted-decimal
format. For example, type 255.255.255.0.
8. Click OK.
9. Repeat steps 1 through 8 to add more VLANs to zones.
10. When you are finished adding VLANs, click Save.
Note You cannot delete a VLAN association if DHCP relay, routing, or a VPN policy
is enabled on the VLAN.
Configuring DHCP Relay
If your network includes a DHCP server, the TMS zl Module can provide DHCP
relay services to this server. A DHCP server serves only clients on the same
subnetwork or VLAN. DHCP relay passes DHCP requests from clients on one
subnetwork to a DHCP server on a different subnetwork, eliminating the need
for a DHCP server on each local network segment. When the module forwards
the DHCP request, it uses its address on the VLAN through which it contacts
the server. For example, if the module reaches the DHCP server through
VLAN 40, the module will use its IP address on VLAN 40 in the DHCP request
packet.
To provide DHCP relay services, the VLAN must have a static IP address. (The
DHCP client must be disabled on that VLAN.)
