TMS zl Management and Configuration Guide ST.1.0.090213

High Availability
Overview
Figure 8-1. Active-Standby Mode
In active-standby mode, the master handles all network traffic, so the partic-
ipant does not have any IP addresses on the TMS VLANs; therefore, you cannot
access the Web browser interface for the participant. Any configuration
changes must be made to the master and then synchronized to the participant.
When you remove the master from an active-standby cluster, it will lose all of
its TMS VLAN IP addresses. (The IP addresses fail over to the participant.)
You will then need to use the CLI to configure at least one new TMS VLAN IP
address in a management-access zone before you can use the Web browser
interface to reconfigure other TMS VLAN IP addresses on the removed mod-
ule. All other settings will be intact, such as management-access zones.
When you remove a participant from an active-standby cluster, it also has no
TMS VLAN IP addresses. However, it had no IP addresses while in the cluster,
and the master is unaffected by the participant’s removal.
Failover
Because the TMS zl Module acts as peer router to its host switch, connections
can fail over to another member that is in the same switch chassis or that is
in a different switch chassis. When the master fails, the participant takes over
as the new master.
To see which traffic types fail over, refer to Table 8-1 on page 8-6.
