Log Message Formats and Fields
Log Message Formats and Fields
The format for a log message varies according to the system that generated
the message. Some types of log messages contain only the fields shown on
Page C-3 plus message texts. Others contain several other fields, which are
included or omitted depending on the type of message.
Listed below are the fields that each type of log message might contain, plus
values and value types for some of the fields.
Firewall
Log messages from the firewall (id=fw_...) will contain these fields:
■ ruleid=[integer]
Number that is displayed in the ID column on Firewall > Access Policies >
Unicast/Multicast
■ msg=[text]
Text of the message
Firewall: Access Control
Log messages in the access control family (id=fw_access_control) may also
contain the following fields, listed in alphabetical order:

destnatport 0–65535 Destination port after NAT
dstport 0–65535 Destination port in the IP packet header
dstzone text Destination zone of the packet
mid integer Message ID number
msg text Text of the message
mtype text Log message family name
proto text The name of the Layer 3 or Layer 4 protocol of the packet
rcvd integer Total number of bytes received from the client to the server
rcvdsc integer Total number of bytes received from the server to the client
