Troubleshooting
Overview
Overview
This appendix provides some guidance for troubleshooting the HP ProCurve
Threat Management Services (TMS) zl Module. It first provides general trou-
bleshooting information that you can use whether the TMS zl Module is
operating in routing mode or monitor mode:
■ “Basic Troubleshooting Tools” on page D-3
■ “Troubleshooting Problems with the Installation and Boot Process” on
page D-14
The remainder of the appendix is divided into two sections:
■ “Troubleshooting the TMS zl Module in Routing Mode” on page D-19
■ “Troubleshooting the TMS zl Module in Monitor Mode” on page D-107
Basic Troubleshooting Tools
Before you begin troubleshooting, you should be familiar with some basic
troubleshooting tools that the TMS zl Module provides (in either routing mode
or monitor mode):
■ ping
■ traceroute command
■ nslookup command
■ show commands
■ capture command
You can use ping from either the Web browser interface or the command line
interface (CLI). The other commands are available from the CLI.
In addition to using these tools, you may also want to obtain a third-party
protocol analyzer so that you can capture and view the packets being trans-
mitted on different interfaces on your network. You can also configure the
module’s capture command to send output to a file and then open that file in
a protocol analyzer. This allows you to analyze the capture in more depth.
