Static Routing
4. The Destination Address depends on the destination type that you chose:
Network—type the IP address and subnet mask of the destination.
Host—type the IP address of the host.
5. For Gateway Address, type IP address of the next-hop router.
6. For Metric, type a value to represent the distance to the destination
address. Typically, the metric for a static route is 0.
7. For Distance, type the administrative distance. Typically, the distance for
a static route is 1.
8. Click OK. The route is now displayed in the Network > Routing > Static Routes
window.
Configuring a Default Gateway
A default gateway is a special static route that applies to all traffic. Typically,
when the router receives a packet that it does not know how to forward, it
drops it. A default gateway allows the router to forward all such packets
toward the destination most likely to be able to route them.
Chapter 2: “Initial Setup in Routing Mode” gives guidelines on selecting the
default gateway and adding the VLAN on which that gateway resides to a zone.
The steps below explain how to create the actual default route:
1. In the left navigation bar, click Network > Routing.
2. Click the Static Routes tab.
3. Click Add Static Route. The Add Static Route window is displayed.
