Troubleshooting the TMS zl Module in Routing Mode
Resolve Common Issues with an HA Cluster
The following suggestions explain how to resolve common problems with
setting up an HA cluster. If the specific problem you are experiencing is not
listed in this section, see “Use the capture Command to Resolve Issues with
an HA Cluster” on page 10-104.
■ After you configure a TMS zl Module and then set up an HA cluster,
the configuration on the master was lost.
This problem probably occurred because you did not set up HA on the
intended master first. When you configure an HA cluster, the first member
that comes online is the master. When the participant comes online, it
takes the configuration from the master. The participant’s configuration
settings are overwritten.
If you configure settings on one module and you want that module to be
the master, you must enable HA on that module first. However, if you by
accident first enable HA on a different module—a module that should be
the participant—that module will become the master, and the cluster will
use that module’s configuration settings. When the intended master comes
online, it takes its settings from what should have been the participant.
The intended master’s configuration will be overwritten.
To prevent configuration changes from being lost, you should always back
up the intended master’s configuration before configuring an HA cluster.
You should also take care to enable HA on the intended master first.
■ The two TMS zl Modules will not form a cluster.
The first thing you should do is verify your cluster settings on both the
master and the participant. Figure 10-24 shows the HA configuration set-
tings for two modules in an HA cluster. The modules must both have the
same HA VLAN, and they must both be configured with the same cluster ID.
The remaining HA settings must be unique: Each module must have its
own HA IP address, which is in the HA VLAN. If the modules have HA IP
addresses in different VLANs, they will not be able to form an HA cluster.
Likewise, if the modules have the same HA IP address, they cannot form
an HA cluster.
Each module must also have a unique device ID. One module must be
assigned device ID 1, and one module must be assigned device ID 2.
Each module must have a unique priority number. You can select a priority
setting from 1 to 255.
