Glossary
multicast flooding The process used to deliver multicast packets. Packets are “flooded” to all
members of an IGMP group.
multicast packet A single packet that is delivered simultaneously to a group of destinations.
multiple-entry
address object
An address object that contains more than one address entry.
My ProCurve The Web page from which you generate license keys for TMS zl Module
products.
N
name server A server that implements name services protocols. Generally, name server
refers to a DNS server.
named object A named object is a logical “container” that is used in firewall access policies,
NAT policies, and port triggers to represent a logical name for one or more
addresses, services, or schedules.
NAS Network Access Server. A server that provides endpoints with network access
and that enforces the decisions of AAA servers, thereby guarding access to the
Internet, printers, phone networks, or other protected resources. While a NAS
does not contain information about which endpoints and end-users can con-
nect, it does send an end-user’s credentials to the AAA server, which processes
them and directs the NAS how to proceed.
NAS ID NAS identifier. Typically, the NAS ID is the IP address of the NAS, but the NAS
ID of a TMS zl Module is the hostname that you specify on System > Settings >
General.
NAT Network Address Translation. A method of reusing IP addresses wherein
endpoints inside one network have IP addresses that are different from those
that are presented to the Internet or another network. For more information,
see RFC 3022 at http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3022.txt.
NAT policy A rule that defines which addresses are translated, what they are translated
into, and under what circumstances
NAT-T NAT-Traversal. An IKE method for UDP encapsulation of ESP packets so that
they pass better through firewalls. For more information, see RFC 3947 at
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3947.txt and RFC 3948 at http://www.ietf.org/rfc/
rfc3948.txt.
