Troubleshooting the TMS zl Module in Routing Mode
Troubleshooting DHCP Problems
This section explains how to troubleshoot problems with:
Workstations receiving an IP address
TMS zl Module VLANs receiving an IP address
Workstations Cannot Receive an IP Address
If workstations cannot receive a dynamic IP address, you must check two
different settings:
First, check the DHCP relay settings. Make sure that DHCP is enabled on the
VLAN and that the DHCP server settings are correct.
Second, check the access policies to ensure that DHCP traffic is allowed from
each workstation’s zone to the DHCP server. Because the TMS zl Module
forwards the DHCP traffic, you must set up the access policies to allow the
traffic to be sent from the workstation’s zone to the module and then to the
DHCP server. Access policies must also allow the return traffic.
1. Check the DHCP relay settings by completing one of the following steps:
From the Web browser interface, click Network > Settings > DHCP
Relay.
From the CLI, enter:
hostswitch(tms-module-C)# show dhcp-relay
2. Ensure that the proper access policies are configured.
a. Permit bootps between the following zones:
Zone that contains the DHCP server to Self
Zone that contains the workstations to Self
Self to zone that contains the DHCP server
b. Permit bootpc between the following zone:
Self to zone that contains the workstations
TMS VLAN Cannot Receive an IP Address
If you have configured a TMS VLAN to receive a dynamic IP address and the
TMS VLAN cannot receive an IP address, check the following:
1. Ensure that the DHCP server is operational and reachable on the VLAN.
