ASN.1 Abstract Syntax Notation One. A standard notation to describe data struc-
tures for representing, encoding, transmitting, and decoding data. DER is an
example of ASN.1 encoding rules.

network access
Network access that was granted after the user submitted credentials to an
authentication server.
authentication
algorithm
An authentication algorithm uses a specific key to generate a unique message
digest for a packet, which the remote endpoint checks using the same key and
algorithm. If the data has been altered, the integrity check fails.

revalidation
Allows the TMS zl Module to automatically revalidate security associations
(SAs) when the associated policy is changed.

backup designated
router
See BDR.
BDR Backup Designated Router. A router in an OSPF network that provides redun-
dancy for a DR. If the DR does not broadcast LSAs in a set amount of time, the
BDR assumes it has failed and takes over as the new DR.
bypass An action for an IPsec policy. Bypass means that the traffic that is specified in
the traffic selector is forwarded to its destination but not secured by the IPsec
