high availability See HA.
host An individual device.
hostname The FQDN of a network device; for example: pop3.university.edu.
host switch The HP 5400zl or 8212zl Switch Series that houses the TMS zl Module.

client
Software that can be installed on a Windows workstation that allows remote
VPN access to the corporate network.
HTTP HyperText Transfer Protocol.
HTTPS HyperText Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer.

IANA Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. The organization that oversees the
global coordination of the DNS Root, IP addressing, and other Internet proto-
col resources.
IANA IP protocols Protocols for which the IANA has assigned a unique identifier. For example,
TCP is identified by the number 6.
IAS Internet Authentication Services. The Microsoft implementation of RADIUS.
ICMP Internet Message Control Protocol. A protocol in the IP suite that reports
problems that are incurred while delivering IP packets.
ICMP echo An ICMP function that sends a packet between two hosts (both directions).
The ping command uses an ICMP echo to check network connectivity.

ICMP messages that report an error that occurred while delivering IP packets.
ICMP message
handling
The predefined response to ICMP messages. For example, the response to a
Source Quench ICMP message is for the source to send traffic more slowly.
ICMP replay An attack where the attacker sends ICMP messages to one or many ports of
the victim device, in hopes of mapping out open and closed ports.
ICV Integrity Check Value. A value that is assigned to a file and used to check the
file (at a later date) to verify that the data file has not been changed.
