TMS zl Management and Configuration Guide ST.1.2.100916
1-9
Overview
Operating Modes
Figure 1-2. Traffic Managed by the TMS zl Module
In this example, you can see that traffic between the server in VLAN 10 and
the Internet passes through the module, as does traffic between VLAN 30 and
VLAN 40. In addition, traffic from the Internet to the server in VLAN 10 is
filtered by the module. However, traffic between the two nodes in VLAN 20 is
forwarded directly by the switch at Layer 2, thereby bypassing the module.
Only traffic that requires Layer 3 routing can be filtered by the TMS zl Module.
TMS VLANs Rules
To add a TMS VLAN to the TMS zl Module, the VLAN must exist on the host
switch.
The TMS zl Module supports up to 256 TMS VLANs. By default, every TMS
VLAN on a module shares a MAC address. However, you can configure the
VLAN to use a unique MAC address when you add the TMS VLAN. This might
be necessary to allow certain applications to run correctly.
Note In the 1.0 version of the software, every TMS VLAN had a unique MAC address.
If you have upgraded from this software, the TMS VLANs added when the
module was running the 1.0 version will retain their unique MAC addresses.
However, TMS VLANs that you add after the upgrade will share a MAC address
unless you configure them otherwise.
