Table 2-1. Default Passwords for the Operator and Manager Users
To protect your network, you should change the passwords for both users. Because
the usernames and passwords are managed through SNMP v3, you must select a
password that meets SNMP v3 standards: the password must be at least eight
characters.
The password does not only authenticate the user. The password also functions as
the key for the following algorithms which secure SNMP v3 communications:
■ Hash Message Authentication Code-Message Digest 5 (HMAC-MD5), a hash
algorithm that ensures data integrity
■ Cipher Block Chaining-Data Encryption Standard (CBC-DES), an encryption
algorithm that ensures data privacy
You can change the passwords either through the SNMP v3 settings or through the
Web-User settings. The most recent configuration takes precedence.
Changing Passwords for Default Users Through SNMP v3. To change the pass-
words through the SNMP v3 settings, complete these steps:
1. Select Management > SNMP Access and click the V3 tab.
