Redundancy Groups and RP Licensing
To ensure high availability of your companys wireless services, you can create
a redundancy group. In addition to the Wireless Edge Services xl Module, you
need a Redundant Wireless Services xl Module. If the Wireless Edge Services
xl Module fails, the redundant module provides failover capabilities.
To eliminate a single point of failure, you should install the two modules in
different switches. In the unlikely event that one wireless services-enabled
switch fails, the module installed in the remaining wireless services-enabled
switch will continue to provide services for mobile users.
The Redundant Wireless Services xl Module does not have RP licenses. On its
own, it cannot adopt RPs. When you create a redundancy group, the RP
licenses assigned to the Wireless Edge Services xl Module are the total number
of licenses for the redundancy group. The Redundant Wireless Services xl
Module does not use these RP licenses unless one of the following occurs:
The Wireless Edge Services xl Module fails. In this case, the Redundant
Wireless Services xl Module uses all of the RP licenses assigned to the
Wireless Edge Services xl Module.
You have configured a setting on the Wireless Edge Services xl Module,
which prevents it from adopting a certain RP. If the settings configured
for the Redundant Wireless Services xl Module allow automatic adoption,
it can adopt the RP.
