Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs)
Configuring a WLAN
Configuring WEP Encryption with No Authentication. If you enable
WEP encryption without authentication, WEP keys both encrypt wireless
traffic and provide rudimentary authentication. You set the WEP key manu-
ally; wireless users must then enter this key before they can connect to the
WLAN. (This security option is sometimes called static WEP.)
By default, all WLANs use open-key authentication, which means that all
stations can associate. However, the station must still have the WEP key to
properly decrypt and encrypt data. (See “Configuring Advanced WLAN Set-
tings” on page 3-52 to learn how to enable shared-key authentication.)
To configure this static WEP:
1. Access the Edit screen for the WLAN.
2. Make sure that the No Authentication option is selected under
Authentication.
3. Select either WEP 64 or WEP 128.
