The ProCurve Wireless Edge Services xl Module also supports these features:
■ Proxy ARP
With this feature enabled, stations are prohibited from sending ARP
requests. Instead, RPs handle looking up the correct MAC addresses for
destination IP addresses. This feature can reduce congestion on the radio
medium.
■ WLAN prioritization
The module divides traffic outbound to RPs into a separate queue for each
WLAN on each RP. The module can prioritize traffic destined to certain
WLANs by forwarding traffic in queues associated with more heavily
weighted WLANs in preference to other traffic.
■ Shared-key authentication
Open and shared-key authentication apply to WLANs that use WEP
encryption.
Open key authentication, which is the default for all WLANs on the
module, allows stations to immediately associate to the RP. (However,
they still must have the correct WEP key to properly send and receive
data.)
Shared-key authentication forces a station to prove that it knows the WEP
key before it can associate to the RP at all.
You enable and disable these features for all WLANs on the module. Follow
these steps:
1. Select Network Setup > WLAN Setup > Configuration.
2. Click the Global Settings button.
3. The screen illustrated in Figure 3-35 displays.
