Traffic Management (QoS)
Contemporary users demand more from wireless connections—more band-
width and more multimedia applications—but they also demand less jitter and
fewer dropped calls.
The ProCurve Wireless Edge Services xl Module helps RPs to deliver a high
quality of service (QoS) for voice, video, and other high-priority or time-
sensitive traffic.
The module and adopted RPs support protocols designed to improve QoS over
the radio medium:
■ SpectraLink Voice Priority (SVP)
■ Wireless Multimedia (WMM)
In addition, the module can use voice prioritization to mark traffic destined
to VoWLAN devices for priority handling in both the Ethernet and wireless
network.
Using WLAN prioritization and weighted fair queuing (WFQ), the module
queues traffic outbound to RPs according to the WLAN to which it is destined.
The module allocates relatively more bandwidth to the queues for WLANs with
a higher QoS weight.
Figure 3-43 displays where these various QoS mechanisms affect traffic.
