Web Authentication for Mobile Users

After a station successfully receives an IP address and associates with the
WLAN, it enters the Web-Auth state. (See Figure 7-2.) In this state, the station
can access only the network devices that you have added to the Web-Auth
Allow list. This list should include the Wireless Edge Services xl Module and
the IP address of any device that you want unauthenticated users to be able
to access. (When you add the IP address of a device to the Allow list, that
device is publicly available: it can be accessed by any user. For more
information, see “Allow List” on page 7-7.)
Associating with the WLAN is the first step. A mobile user must then open a
Web browser and attempt to access a valid URL that can be reached through
your company’s network. The Wireless Edge Services xl Module intercepts
this request and redirects the user’s Web browser to the Web-Auth login page,
which prompts the user to enter a username and password.
