The DP M en
d-user recovery feature allows end users to independently recover data by retrieving shadow
copies of
les. To use this feature, you must enable it on your Data Protection Storage Server a nd on
the end-
user client PC. For detailed instructions on enabling the end-user recovery function, please

Supporting Single Instance Storage on protected le servers
This section only applies if one or m ore of your protected le servers are running Single Instance Storage
(SIS) on a volume protected by DPM. By default, DPM does not support SIS on a protected volume, but
hotxes are provided in the c:\hpnas\components\DPM\SIS-QFE folder that can b e app lied.
SIS works by searching a hard disk volume to identify duplicate les. If SIS nds identical les, it saves
one copy of the le to a central repository, c alled the SIS Common Store, and replaces other copies
with pointers to the stored versions. If SIS linked les are backed up by D PM, the link information is not
restored properly when the les are restored. To resolve this problem follow the procedure below.
1. Install the provided DataProtectionManager2006-KB917642.exe on the Data Protection
Storage Server. This hotx cannot be applied until the D PM m i ni-setup h as been performed. DPM
mini-setup is discussed in your Data Protection Storage Server installation guide.
2. Go to the Management/Agents tab of the DPM user interface. Update the agent on the protected
le ser ver that uses SIS.
3. Install the provided WindowsServer2003-KB913109.exe hotx on both the Da ta Protection
Storage Server and the protected server.
4. Go to the Protection tab on the D PM user interface and run a synchronization with consistency check
on the protected volumes.
