HP ProLiant Gen8 Server with HP iLO Management Engine Setup Guide

4 Hardware installation and configuration
Installing ProLiant DL servers
1. Install options
Install any hardware options before initializing the server. For information about installing
options, see the documentation that ships with the option. For server-specific information, see
the server user guide on the Documentation CD and on the HP ProLiant Gen8 Server
Management Information Library website http://www.hp.com/go/proliantgen8/docs.
2. Install the server in the rack
WARNING! To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment:
Be sure that the rack is adequately stabilized before installing the server.
Reduce the weight of the server by removing the hard drives and power supplies before
installing the server into the rack.
At least two people are required to lift the server during installation or removal.
CAUTION: Always plan the rack installation so that the heaviest item is on the bottom of the
rack. Install the heaviest item first, and continue to populate the rack from the bottom to the
top.
Install the server into the rack. For more information, see the Quick Deploy Rail System
Installation Instructions that ship with the rack hardware kit.
3. Connect peripheral devices to the server
IMPORTANT: When using cable management arm components, be sure to leave enough
slack in each of the cables to avoid damaging the cables when the server is extended from
the rack.
Connect the peripheral devices to the server. The ports are labeled on the rear of the server.
For more information on ports and connectors, see the server user guide on the Documentation
CD and on the HP ProLiant Gen8 Server Management Information Library website http://
www.hp.com/go/proliantgen8/docs.
4. Connect the power cord to the power supply
WARNING! To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to the equipment:
Do not disable the power cord grounding plug. The grounding plug is an important safety
feature.
Plug the power cord into a grounded (earthed) electrical outlet that is easily accessible
at all times.
Unplug the power cord from the power supply to disconnect power to the equipment.
Do not route the power cord where it can be walked on or pinched by items placed
against it. Pay particular attention to the plug, electrical outlet, and the point where the
cord extends from the storage system.
a. Connect the power cord to the power supply.
b. Thread the power cord through the strain relief clip (if applicable). For instructions on
using the power cord strain relief clip, see the instructions that ship with the clip.
c. Connect the power cord to the AC power source.
