IMPORTANT: The battery module may have a low charge when it is first installed. In this case, a Power-On Self-Test (POST) message 1794 is displayed when the server is powered up, indicating that the battery module is temporarily disabled. No action is necessary on your part, since the internal circuitry automatically recharges the batteries. The recharge process can take up to four hours.

Installing the Controller 1. Power down the server, disconnect the power cord, and open the server. 2. Remove the fans from the front fan bracket. 2 1 3. Remove the fan bracket. 2 1 1 4. Remove the PCI riser cage assembly as described by the procedure posted on the assembly unit.

5. Remove the Smart Array 5i Controller from the system board. 2 1 6. Plug one end of the cable (from the kit) into the socket on the Smart Array 5i Plus Controller board. 7. Insert the Smart Array 5i Plus Controller and attached cable into the socket on the system board, pressing firmly to engage both connectors. 1 2 8. Plug the other end of the cable into the socket on the battery module.

9. Insert the battery module assembly into the space between the server chassis and the internal drive. The hook on the plastic backing piece fits into a gap near the front of the chassis at this location. 10. Route the battery module cable along the server wall. 11. Replace the riser cage assembly, fan frame, and fans. Installation is complete.
