3.7.0 HP StorageWorks MxDB-Oracle-HiAv installation and administration guide HP MxDB-Oracle-HiAv for Linux (AG513-96009, June 2009)

2 Install MxDB-Oracle-HiAv
The MxDB-Oracle-HiAv software enables Oracle database administrators to create
and manage one or more Virtual Oracle Services. These services allow database
administrators to place a single-instance Oracle database running in the cluster under
the control of MxDB-Oracle-HiAv. The database can then be configured to run on
any number of servers in the cluster. The Virtual Oracle Service provides a virtual IP
address for Oracle clients to use, independent of the actual server address.
MxDB-Oracle-HiAv will automatically fail over the database to a configured backup
server in the cluster if a fatal event such as a server failure occurs.
This chapter describes how to install MxDB-Oracle-HiAv and lists prerequisites for
the product. If you are upgrading from an earlier release of MxDB-Oracle-HiAv, see
the HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software upgrade guide for information about
performing the upgrade.
Prerequisites
Before installing Oracle and MxDB-Oracle-HiAv, it is important to take the following
steps:
Based on the Naming conventions on page 11, work with your network admin-
istrator to assign DNS names for the virtual Oracle services.
Conduct capacity planning on the servers in the cluster to ensure that all servers
configured for the Virtual Oracle Service have sufficient resources to support all
Oracle activities if a failover should occur.
Schedule time for the Oracle database to be down.
Install a supported operating system and an HP Scalable NAS kernel as specified
in the HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software installation guide.
Install HP Scalable NAS 3.7.0 (or higher) and the HP Scalable NAS Management
Console 3.7.0 (or higher) as described in the HP Scalable NAS File Serving
Software installation guide. When the installation is complete, the operating system
will be running on the newly booted kernel and HP Scalable NAS will be running
on all nodes in the cluster.
