3.7.0 HP StorageWorks MxDB-Oracle-HiAv installation and administration guide HP MxDB-Oracle-HiAv for Linux (AG513-96009, June 2009)

Configures Oracle Net Services file entries such as listener.ora and tns-
names.ora if desired. This feature is provided as a convenience. The use of
Oracle Net Services tools such as netca and netmgr is also supported.
Creates a virtual host that SQL*Net clients use to access the database.
Creates a service monitor that checks the health of servers, the database instance,
and listeners. When a virtual host has an associated service monitor and database,
it is known as a Virtual Oracle Service.
Performs the initial startup of the database instance and the Net Services listener.
Operations
The GUI and the CLI support a rich set of functionality for managing Virtual Oracle
Services. Operations include:
Obtaining status.
Starting or stopping a Virtual Oracle Service.
Rehosting a Virtual Oracle Service (that is, moving the database instance to an-
other server in the cluster).
Adding or removing servers from the configuration of the Virtual Oracle Service
(the servers specified in the configuration can support the database instance).
Starting or stopping MxDB-Oracle-HiAv Maintenance Mode so that the DBA can
control the database state rather the having it under the control of the Virtual
Oracle Service.
Deleting a Virtual Oracle Service.
NOTE:
The GUI does not actively poll for status updates. It is necessary to click Refresh at
the bottom of the GUI for updates if the screen is allowed to sit idle for long periods
of time.
MxDB-Oracle-HiAv command line interface
The mxdb command provides Database Administrators with a secure, fixed set of
administration functionality. The command can be executed only by users in group
DBA. This ensures that database operations such as startup and shutdown can be
performed only by Oracle DBAs using mxdb or the MxDB-Oracle-HiAv GUI.
