3.7.0 HP StorageWorks MxDB-Oracle-HiAv installation and administration guide HP MxDB-Oracle-HiAv for Linux (AG513-96009, June 2009)

that the cluster and your Oracle databases are configured properly for use with
MxDB-Oracle-HiAv.
MxDB-Oracle-HiAv includes a demonstration database called PILOT that you can use
to become familiar with the process of placing a database under MxDB-Oracle-HiAv
control and with managing the database via MxDB-Oracle-HiAv. It is not necessary
to configure this demonstration database. If you already have databases, be sure to
review the following example before you begin working with your existing database
(see Configure an existing database, page 33.)
Create the demonstration database
The Configuration GUI is used to create the PILOT demonstration database.
NOTE:
To avoid a naming conflict, MxDB-Oracle-HiAv will not create the demonstration
database if you already have a database named PILOT. (To determine whether a
database named PILOT currently exists, MxDB-Oracle-HiAv checks /etc/oratab
for a database with that name and checks ${ORACLE_HOME}/dbs for an
initPILOT.ora file.)
Before creating the demonstration database, note the following:
The demonstration database requires a fully qualified Virtual Oracle Service
name. You can temporarily create this name in your /etc/hosts file, being
sure not to use an existing valid IP address belonging to someone else.
For this example, we will use the Virtual Oracle Service name PILOT and DNS
name PILOT.customer.com.
As described earlier under step 4. Perform network configuration for Virtual Oracle
Services, page 18, if you will be creating the database on a system that has ex-
isting databases, check listener.ora and tnsnames.ora to determine
whether other applications such as netmgr or netc are managing them. In the
files, look for the text # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
If the text does not exist and the files are not being managed by other applications,
the GUI will allow you to add entries in those files. If you want to let the GUI
manage the network configuration files and the above text is present, the demo
Virtual Oracle Service will refuse to update those configuration files.
To invoke the GUI, execute the following command from an xterm session. You must
be the Oracle user.
