3.7.0 HP StorageWorks MxDB-Oracle-HiAv installation and administration guide HP MxDB-Oracle-HiAv for Linux (AG513-96009, June 2009)

Database operations
Database administration changes slightly when a database is monitored by
MxDB-Oracle-HiAv. For example, if a database fails the monitor probe,
MxDB-Oracle-HiAv will attempt to restart the database before moving it to a backup
server. Therefore, if a DBA connects to a database through SQL*Plus or Enterprise
Manager and shuts the database down, it will be immediately restarted by
MxDB-Oracle-HiAv. For this and other reasons, the GUI and the CLI support the
following operations:
Starting or stopping a Virtual Oracle Service
Rehosting a database
Adding or removing nodes
Using Maintenance Mode to handle the above example
Deleting a Virtual Oracle Service
The following procedures describe how to perform these tasks from the GUI or the
CLI. See The mxdb command line interface, page 53 for a complete list of CLI
commands.
Start or stop the database, including the Virtual Oracle Service
When stopping a Virtual Oracle Service, the database is shut down on the node on
which it is executing and the Virtual Oracle Service is also shut down. When starting
a Virtual Oracle Service, the database will be started on the Primary node provided
that the server is healthy. Assuming the database starts, the Virtual Oracle Service
will also come online. When a Virtual Oracle Service is in the Stopped state, access
through the Virtual Oracle Service is disabled. When the Service is in the Started
state, access is enabled via the virtual host address.
