3.7.0 HP StorageWorks MxDB-Oracle-HiAv installation and administration guide HP MxDB-Oracle-HiAv for Linux (AG513-96009, June 2009)

approach to deploying MxDB-Oracle-HiAv with Data Guard is to get Data Guard
fully functional before you create a Virtual Oracle Service for the database. Once
Data Guard is fully functional, it is quite simple to change the SQL*Net files so that
the HOST assignments use the Virtual Oracle Service instead of the real host name,
and then use the MxDB-Oracle-HiAv GUI to create the Virtual Oracle Service. In such
a case you simply check the button that tells the solution pack that the SQL*Net
entries already exist. The following example shows a portion of a listener.ora
file for a Data Guard Standby database with DB_UNIQUE_NAME and
SERVICE_NAMES assignments of SEATTLE. The HOST assignment of seattle.pdx.com
is a Virtual Oracle Service VHOST.
SEATTLE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =
seattle.pdx.com)(PORT = 1521))
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = PROD)
)
)
In this example, there would be no loss of functionality if the HOST assignment were
changed from the Virtual Oracle Service VHOST to the hostname of the server itself.
When setting up SQL*Net with MxDB-Oracle-HiAv, you should have SQL*Net files
that are fully functional whether using the Virtual Oracle Service or the hostname of
the server. With that strategy in mind, setting up SQL*Net for MxDB-Oracle-HiAv is
simple.
