3.7.0 HP StorageWorks MxDB-Oracle-HiAv installation and administration guide HP MxDB-Oracle-HiAv for Linux (AG513-96009, June 2009)

A Configuration checklist
Before attempting to create a Virtual Oracle Service, use the following checklist to
ensure that MxDB-Oracle-HiAv is installed correctly and that the cluster and your
Oracle databases are configured properly for use with MxDB-Oracle-HiAv.
Remember that only the GUI (not the CLI) can be used to create a new Virtual Oracle
Service.
1. Do capacity planning so that enough resources (memory and swap space in
particular) will be available on each node should a failure necessitating rehosting
to a backup node occur. Create a list of primary and backup nodes, and also
the virtual host address that clients will use to connect, for the database you are
about to encapsulate into a Virtual Oracle Service.
Responsibility: Both system administrator with root privileges and Oracle DBA
2. The oracle user (user oracle), the groups associated with the oracle user such
as the dba group (group dba) or the oracle install user (group oinstall) must
be created on all nodes that will use this oracle install. The user id and group
ids need to be identical on these nodes. The oracle user must also be a member
of group pmxs, which should have the same group id across all nodes as part
of the cluster installation. The oracle users primary group must be oinstall. Login
as the oracle user before you invoke the GUI.
Responsibility: System administrator with root privileges
3. Verify that at least one single instance Oracle version (10g or 11g or both) is
installed on a shared, regular PSFS filesystem (do not use the dboptimized mount
option). This Oracle installation needs to occur on one and only one node.
However the PSFS filesystem with the installed ORACLE_HOME should be
mounted in the same way on all server nodes that will be used as primary or
backup servers for databases using this Oracle install. See 2. Install Or-
acle, page 16.
Responsibility: System administrator with root privileges
4. Ensure that the filesystem you will use for Oracle data files is a PSFS filesystem
mounted with the dboptimized option. This filesystem needs to be mounted in
the same way on each server node that will act as primary or backup server for
this database. To maintain OFA compliance, create a soft link from [$OR-
