11. Ensure that $ORACLE_HOME is set to a valid Oracle install location before
launching either the GUI or the command line interface. Remember this (or set
the oracle user profile accordingly) on all nodes where you plan to manage
Virtual Oracle Services.

12. On all nodes, ensure that the /etc/oratab entry for databases under MxDB-
Oracle-HiAv control is not set to automatically start itself upon reboot. A valid
$ORACLE_HOME must be listed in /etc/oratab on the server you use to run
the GUI. See 5. Install MxDB-Oracle-HiAv, page 19.

13. For all databases that will be put under MxDB-Oracle-HiAv control, make sure
that either an spfile or a pfile exists in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs. Also, ensure
that the database is shut down. See 2. Install Oracle, page 16.Responsibility:

14. When creating the PILOT database, you must use an Xterm window. If you can
use dbca or run Installer in the window, it can be used for the PILOT database.
