IfyouareunabletocreateLUNsonyourdiskarray,youcan placethe
membershippartitionsonregulardiskpartitions.Youcanusethe
WindowsLogicalDiskManagementutilitytocreatetheappropriate
partitions.
Partitions Containing Windows Filesystems
Ifyouwillbeusinganexistingpartitionforamembershippartitionand
thatpartition
currentlycontainsaWindowsfilesystem,thenthat
filesystemmustbedestroyed.Onemethodfordoingthisistodeletethe
partitionandthenrecreateit.Thisisbestdonebeforemultipleservers
haveaccesstothedisk.Ifthatisnotpossible,allotherserverswithaccess
tothediskmust
beforcedtorecognizethechanges,eitherbyrebooting
allthosesystems,orbymanuallydisablingtheportsontheFibreChannel
switchthatconnectthosesystemstotheSAN.Ifusingthesecond
method,disabletheportsbeforemakingthepartitiontablechange,and
thenreenabletheportsafterwards.
Changes to the Disk Partition Table
We
recommendthatyoudoallnecessarypartitioningondisksthatwill
containmembershippartitionsbeforeassigningthemembership
partitions.Itisbesttodothepartitioningbeforemultipleservershave
accesstothedisk.Ifthisisnotpossible,ensurethatallservershaving
accesstothediskthroughtheSAN
detectthepartitiontablechanges
beforecontinuingonwithmembershippartitioninitialization.
Thiscanbedoneeitherbyrebootingtheserversafteryoumakethe
partitiontablechanges,orbymanuallydisablingtheportsonthe
FibreChannelswitchthatconnecttheserverstotheSAN.Ifusingthe
secondmethod,disable
theportsbeforemakingthepartitiontable
changes,andthenreenabletheportsafterwards.
Ifyoushouldlaterneedtorepartitionadiskcontainingamembership
partition,youwillneedtostopHPClusteredFileSystembeforeyou
changethelayout.Whiletheclusterisstopped,youwillnotbeable
to
accessotherdisksinthecluster.WhenHPClusteredFileSystemis
restartedontheserver,itwillrecognizethechangestothepartitiontable.
