Whencertainproblemsoccuronaserver(forexample,hardware
problemsorthelossofclusternetworkcommunications),andtheserver
ceasestoeffectivelycoordinateandcommunicatewithotherserversin
thecluster,HPClusteredFileSystemmustremovetheserver’saccessto
filesystemstopreservedataintegrity.Thisstep
iscalledfencing.
TheSAN&FencingtaballowsyoutoselectthemethodthatHP
ClusteredFileSystemshouldusetoremoveaccesstotheSAN.
Therearetwofencingmethods:
• FibreChannelswitch‐basedfencing.Whenaserverneedstobe
fenced,HPClusteredFileSystemwilldisabletheserver’s
accessinthe
FibreChannelfabric.Theservermustberebootedtoregainaccessto
theSAN.
• Webmanagement‐basedfencing.HPClusteredFileSystemuses
remotemanagementhardwareontheservertoremoveitsaccessto
PSFSfilesystems.(SeetheHPClusteredFileSystemQuickSpecson
theHPweb
siteforalistofsupportedHPProLiantservers.Theserver
mustsupporttheHPiLOremotemanagementfunctionality.)
NotesRegardingFencing
Beforeconfiguringfencing,youshouldbeawareofthefollowing:
•IfyouwillbeusingtheFibreChannelVirtualInterconnectmoduleson
theHPC‐ClassBladeSystem,youmustconfigure
webmangement‐
basedfencing.Switch‐basedfencingcannotbeusedwiththese
modules.
•IfyouwillbeusingIPMIinterfaceswithwebmangement‐based
fencing,youwillneedtochangethepasswordfromthefactory
default.Thefencingfeaturewillnotworkcorrectlyifthepasswordis
notchanged.
• ISCSIstoragemust
usewebmanagement‐basedfencing.
