Whencertainproblemsoccuronaserver(forexample,hardware
problemsorthelossofclusternetworkcommunications),andtheserver
ceasestoeffectivelycoordinateandcommunicatewithotherserversin
thecluster,HPClusteredFileSystemmustremovetheserversaccessto
filesystemstopreservedataintegrity.Thisstep
iscalledfencing.
TheSAN&FencingtaballowsyoutoselectthemethodthatHP
ClusteredFileSystemshouldusetoremoveaccesstotheSAN.
Therearetwofencingmethods:
FibreChannelswitchbasedfencing.Whenaserverneedstobe
fenced,HPClusteredFileSystemwilldisabletheservers
accessinthe
FibreChannelfabric.Theservermustberebootedtoregainaccessto
theSAN.
Webmanagementbasedfencing.HPClusteredFileSystemuses
remotemanagementhardwareontheservertoremoveitsaccessto
PSFSfilesystems.(SeetheHPClusteredFileSystemQuickSpecson
theHPweb
siteforalistofsupportedHPProLiantservers.Theserver
mustsupporttheHPiLOremotemanagementfunctionality.)
NotesRegardingFencing
Beforeconfiguringfencing,youshouldbeawareofthefollowing:
•IfyouwillbeusingtheFibreChannelVirtualInterconnectmoduleson
theHPCClassBladeSystem,youmustconfigure
webmangement
basedfencing.Switchbasedfencingcannotbeusedwiththese
modules.
•IfyouwillbeusingIPMIinterfaceswithwebmangementbased
fencing,youwillneedtochangethepasswordfromthefactory
default.Thefencingfeaturewillnotworkcorrectlyifthepasswordis
notchanged.
ISCSIstoragemust
usewebmanagementbasedfencing.
