Updating components using HP Intelligent
Provisioning
HP Intelligent Provisioning is a single-server deployment
tool embedded in HP ProLiant Gen8 servers. Use the
Firmware Update feature in Intelligent Provisioning
upon initial setup to ensure you have the latest versions
of firmware and drivers. For Microsoft Windows 2012
installations, you must run Intelligent Provisioning
version 1.30 or later.
For Microsoft Windows 2012 R2, you must run
Intelligent Provisioning version 1.60 or later.
Intelligent Provisioning replaces the
SmartStart CD and Smart Update Firmware
DVD
Intelligent Provisioning is a single-server deployment
tool embedded in HP ProLiant Gen8 servers that
replaces the SmartStart CDs and Smart Update
Firmware DVD used with previous generations of HP
ProLiant servers.
Use Intelligent Provisioning to:
• Install Microsoft Windows, Red Hat and SUSE
Linux, and VMware operating systems.
• Manage and update necessary drivers not
included in base operating system media.
• Perform maintenance-related tasks such as
firmware updates, iLO configuration, and
configuring Smart Array.
To access Intelligent Provisioning, power up the HP
ProLiant Gen8 server and press the F10 key during
system boot. For more information about using

SPP replaces the HP ProLiant Support Pack
(PSP) and Firmware DVD
The SPP contains ProLiant server and BladeSystem
drivers, systems software, and firmware. The SPP uses
HP Smart Update Manager (HP SUM) to deploy
firmware and system software components on multiple
HP ProLiant servers. It replaces the following products,
