Determine whether or not the Compaq servers support the physical
SCSI disks installed in the RA4000/RA4100 Arrays. Check the event
log for disk I/O error messages or indications of problems with the
communications transport.
If the drives are still not recognized, it is recommended that you start
investigating the problem from the lowest level of drive configuration.
G Run the Compaq Array Configuration Utility. You can run this
utility online if at least one logical drive is configured and
recognized. The Array Configuration Utility is used to see if any of
the drive arrays are offline (degraded or failed). The online utility is
installed as part of the Compaq SmartStart and Support
Software CD.
G If all drives are not recognized by the Array Configuration Utility, it
is probably a physical connection problem.
G Verify that all indicator lights on each Fibre Host Adapter, Fibre
Channel SAN Switch, FC-AL Switch, or Storage Hub, and
RA4000 Array Controller are showing correct status.
G Verify that a Gigabit Interface Converter-Shortwave (GBIC-SW)
module is properly installed in each Fibre Host Adapter, all active
ports on each Fibre Channel SAN Switch, FC-AL Switch, or
Storage Hub, and each RA4000 Array Controller.
G Verify that all Fibre Channel cables are properly connected to their
GBIC-SW modules. For details on how to connect the GBIC-SW
modules and the Fibre Channel cables, refer to the
Compaq StorageWorks RAID Array 4000 User Guide or
the Compaq StorageWorks RAID Array 4100 User Guide.
If all drives are recognized by the Array Configuration Utility and are
configured correctly, start Windows 2000 Advanced Server and run
Disk Management. Verify that all drive volumes can be accurately
viewed from Disk Management on each node.
If you continue to have problems, refer to Appendix A, Diagnosing and
Resolving Shared Disk Problems, for further information. Also refer to
the Compaq Fibre Channel Troubleshooting Guide for further
corrective actions.
