Planning Cluster Interconnect and Client LAN
Components
PDC/O1000 clusters running Oracle8i Parallel Server can use a redundant or
non-redundant Ethernet cluster interconnect. A redundant cluster interconnect
is recommended because it provides fault tolerance along the entire cluster
interconnect path.
Planning an Ethernet Cluster Interconnect
NOTE: Refer to the technical white paper Supported Ethernet Interconnects for

about configuring redundant Ethernet cluster interconnects. This document is available at

Before you install an Ethernet cluster interconnect in a PDC/O1000 cluster,
review these planning considerations:
■ Whether to use a redundant or non-redundant Ethernet cluster
interconnect. A redundant Ethernet cluster interconnect is recommended
because it provides fault tolerance across the cluster interconnect.
■ Whether to use two Ethernet switches or two Ethernet hubs for the
cluster interconnect. If your cluster will contain or grow to three or more
nodes, you must use two Ethernet switches.
■ Whether to use two dual-port Ethernet adapters in each node that will
connect to both the cluster interconnect and the client LAN or to use
separate single-port adapters for the Ethernet cluster interconnect and
the client LAN.
