Cabling the Client LAN
You can use any TCP/IP network to connect to a client LAN. The following
procedure contains instructions for cabling an Ethernet client LAN.
To cable an Ethernet client LAN:
1. Insert one end of an Ethernet cable into an Ethernet adapter port
designated for the client LAN in a cluster node.
If you are using a recommended dual-port Ethernet adapter for the
cluster interconnect, connect the client LAN to the empty port.
If you are using a recommended single-port adapter for the cluster
interconnect, connect the client LAN to the port on the embedded
adapter or to another single-port Ethernet adapter.
2. Connect the node to the client LAN by inserting the other end of the
client LAN Ethernet cable to a port in the Ethernet hub or switch.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for all other cluster nodes.
Redundant Client LAN
If you elect to install an Ethernet client LAN, you must provide two
single-port Ethernet adapters or one dual-port Ethernet adapter for the client
LAN in each cluster node. You must also have two Ethernet hubs or switches,
and one Ethernet crossover cable must be installed between the Ethernet hubs
or switches. Installing redundant crossover cables directly between the nodes
is not supported.
For information on configuring Ethernet connections in a redundant client
LAN, including enabling failover from one Ethernet path to another, see
