2 HP Management Agents VMware On a ProLiant DL980 G7 server running VMware ESX 4.1 and version 8.5.1 of the HP Management Agents for VMware ESX, the server may appear to pause for more than five minutes during server boot, causing an extended boot time. This occurs while the system is waiting for the hp-health drivers to initialize, and the extended boot time may increase with the number of DIMMs installed in the system.

Change the attributes of the file /opt/hp/Announce_Agents.sh to be executable. # chmod +x /opt/hp/Announce_Agents.sh 4. configure the system to start the hp-health services in the background: # echo "@reboot root /etc/init.d/hp-snmp-agents start && /etc/init.d/hp-asrd start && /opt/hp/Announce_Agents.sh && logger " IM Agents started" ">> /etc/cron.
3 HP Insight Management WBEM Providers for Windows HP System Management Homepage timeout message A ProLiant DL580 G7 or ProLiant DL980 G7 server using HP System Management Homepage (SMH) for Windows may display a "Timeout" message when loading web pages for HP Insight Management WBEM Providers Version 2.6.0.0 or 2.6.1.0 for Windows. When this occurs, the HP Insight Management WBEM Providers webpage does not load and a pop-up window will indicate that the page cannot be loaded.
To ensure the ProLiant DL580 G7 and ProLiant DL980 G7 server memory and sensor information is available in HP System Management Homepage for Windows, upgrade to HP Insight Management WBEM Providers for Windows Version 2.6.1.0 (or later) as follows: 1. Click on the following URL: http://www.hp.com/#Support 2. Click on Download drivers and software (and firmware). 3. Under Select a product category, select Servers. 4. Select ProLiant/tc Series Servers. 5. Select the desired ProLiant series. 6.
This timeout can occur on any ProLiant DL980 G7 server running one of the following Windows Server 2008 R2 platforms and using the HP WBEM Providers for Windows Version 2.6 and Systems Management Homepage Version 6.1 (SMH): • Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition x64 • Windows Server 2008 R2 Data Center Edition x64 • Windows 2008 Data Center Edition x64 SP-2 A future release of the HP WBEM Providers for Windows will include an update and allow the SMH to refresh without timeout errors.
4 Firmware advisories iLO 3 Fan alert On a ProLiant DL980 G7 if two fans fail, or if a dual-rotor fan is removed and the "Shutdown" operating system pop-up alert appears, if the hot-plug fans are immediately replaced, the fan sensor state returns to "OK" (Green); however, the 60-second shutdown is not always aborted as it should be, and the system continues with its graceful shutdown. This issue occurs because HP Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) Firmware Version 1.
To prevent a spurious IML message from being generated in the event that AC power is suddenly removed, upgrade to Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) Firmware Version 1.26 (or later). Perform the following steps to obtain the latest iLO 3 firmware version: 1. Click on the following link: http://www.hp.com/support/iLO3 2. 3. 4. Select the appropriate operating system. Click on "Firmware - Lights-Out Management." Locate, download, and install iLO 3 Firmware Version 1.26 (or later).

5 Hardware options TPM After a cold boot on a ProLiant DL980 G7 server running any of the Windows Server 2008 operating systems listed in the Scope section below, Event 15, TPM may be listed in the System Event Log. This message indicates that the device driver for the attached Trusted Platform Module (TPM) encountered a non-recoverable error in the TPM hardware, which prevents TPM services from being used. In addition, Microsoft Bitlocker Encryption may prompt for a password.
I/O Due to a limitation with all BIOS-based platforms, it is not possible to flash more than eleven I/O cards at one time. HP ProLiant DL980 G7 servers with a large I/O device configuration may be unable to flash (using an offline method only) all I/O cards that are installed in the system.

6 HP System Health Application Redundant power supply loss If all available redundant power supplies in an N+N configuration are simultaneously lost on an HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server, HP ProLiant DL580 G7, or HP ProLiant DL585 G7 server running Linux, the server will schedule a shutdown and reboot approximately sixty seconds later if the HP System Health Application and Command Line Utilities (hp-health) Version 8.70 is loaded.
7 Linux Warning message An HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (x86_64) or SUSE Enterprise Linux 11 (x86_64) will display the following warning messages in dmesg log: ACPI Warning: Invalid length for Pm1aControlBlock: 32, using default 16 (20090903/tbfadt-607) The ACPI Warning: Invalid length for Pm1aControlBlock : messages are benign and can be safely ignored. They do not result in performance loss or negatively affect the operation of the system.
