HP ProLiant DL 980 G7 Server System Errata

Fan alert
On a ProLiant DL980 G7 if two fans fail, or if a dual-rotor fan is removed and the "Shutdown"
operating system pop-up alert appears, if the hot-plug fans are immediately replaced, the fan
sensor state returns to "OK" (Green); however, the 60-second shutdown is not always aborted as
it should be, and the system continues with its graceful shutdown. This issue occurs because HP
Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) Firmware Version 1.10 detects that when two fans are failed and
repaired in quick succession, they may be flagged as "Failed" and then "OK" in a random order,
so iLO 3 does not detect that the shutdown should be cancelled when the fans are hot-swapped.
A future version of iLO 3 firmware will prevent the graceful shutdown from continuing if the fans
are immediately replaced. There is no workaround to prevent the possible shutdown; however, if
the fans fail and need to be replaced, perform the following instead of hot-swapping the fans:
1. Shut down the server and remove the power cord.
2. Replace any dual rotor fans (or two individual fans)
3. Power the server back on.
Power reporting
The display for Power Supply Capacity - Watts under Power Capping Settings on the Integrated
Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) web interface does not reflect the added wattage of additional power supply
units hot-added to Bay 5 or higher when Bays 1 through 4 are populated and the server is running.
Although the additional power does not appear on the iLO 3 web interface, it will be available
to the server.
NOTE: The Power Capping Settings page is located under Power Management -> Power Settings
on the iLO 3 web interface.
When this occurs, there will be no error messages. The only indication is that the additional wattage
will not appear on the iLO 3 web interface. This is caused by iLO 3 Firmware Version 1.07 when
running on a ProLiant DL980 G7 server, and does not occur on other server platforms.
To avoid this issue, perform either of the following after adding a power supply to Bay 5 (or higher):
• Reset the iLO 3 firmware from the Diagnostics page on the iLO 3 web interface. This is the
preferred method.
• Shut the server down, power the server off, then power the server back up.
This will be corrected in a future version of the iLO 3 firmware.
Spurious Integrated Management Log (IML) Message May Be Generated After an
AC Power Failure
On an HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server with Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) Firmware Version 1.20
(or earlier), if AC power is removed from a running server (e.g., power plug disconnected or an
AC power failure), then a spurious Integrated Management Log (IML) message may be generated
immediately after AC power is restored.
The IML message has severity "Critical", is from class "XNC", and has the form "Power fault occurred on
<<location>> XNC board.. Details: 0X<<hex>>.
Location is either "upper" or "lower", and "hex" is a 2-digit hexadecimal number.
To avoid a spurious IML message from being generated, properly power down the server before
removing AC power from the chassis.
