HP ProLiant DL 980 G7 Server System Errata

To prevent a spurious IML message from being generated in the event that AC power is suddenly
removed, upgrade to Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) Firmware Version 1.26 (or later). Perform the
following steps to obtain the latest iLO 3 firmware version:
1. Click on the following link:
http://www.hp.com/support/iLO3
2. Select the appropriate operating system.
3. Click on "Firmware - Lights-Out Management."
4. Locate, download, and install iLO 3 Firmware Version 1.26 (or later).
In the event AC power is removed from a running server and a spurious IML message is generated,
the message can be safely ignored if the server properly reboots.
Fan speed
When the HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server is configured with the Thermal Configuration option in
the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) set to "Max Fans (Blowout)", the System ROM may not set the
fans to full speed as expected. When this occurs, the Integrated Lights-Out 3 displays a fan speed
much lower than 99 percent. This may occur on any HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server with any of the
following System ROM versions:
System ROM version dated 01/27/2011
System ROM version dated 03/24/2011
System ROM version dated 06/24/2011
This is targeted to be resolved in a future version of the System ROM
To ensure the fans run as expected, the following three options must be set to default in the RBSU:
Set NMI Debug Button to Enabled.
Advanced Options -> Advanced System ROM Options -> NMI Debug Button -> select Enabled
Set Intel® Hyperthreading Options to Enabled.
NOTE: To avoid performance degradation, Hyperthreading should only be enabled if the
operating system and applications support more than sixty four processors.
System Options -> Processor Options -> Intel Hyperthreading Options -> Select Enabled
Set POST F1 Prompt to Delayed.
Advanced Options -> Thermal Configuration, Server Availability -> POST F1 Prompt -> Select
Delayed .
HP Smart Array P410i, HP Smart Array P411, or the HP Smart Array P212
Controller
On the HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server, if the firmware for the HP Smart Array P410i, HP Smart
Array P411, or the HP Smart Array P212 controller is upgraded to version 5.12, the NVRAM may
be overwritten. When this occurs, system defaults will be restored; for example, settings in the
ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) such as the PCI OPTION ROM ENABLE/DISABLE will be at the
default setting of ENABLED. Remain at Firmware Version 3.66 Instead of Upgrading to Firmware
Version 5.12 for the HP Smart Array P410i, HP Smart Array P411, or the HP Smart Array P212
Controller to Avoid the NVRAM Being Overwritten.
