HP ProLiant DL 980 G7 Server System Errata
I/O
Due to a limitation with all BIOS-based platforms, it is not possible to flash more than eleven I/O
cards at one time. HP ProLiant DL980 G7 servers with a large I/O device configuration may be
unable to flash (using an offline method only) all I/O cards that are installed in the system. When
this occurs, message(s) similar to the following will be displayed during Power-On Self-Test (POST):
For I/O space:
Warning: There is not enough available I/O resources to allocate to all devices installed in the system. Devices
which were not allocated requested resources may not operate properly.
This occurs when attempting to flash a large number of I/O cards because some cards may run
out out of I/O port space or the I/O configuration of the server demands resources beyond those
which the platform architecture allows.
NOTE: This is an indication that the HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server has encountered this I/O port
space limitation and does not indicate an issue with the server hardware.
If some PCI devices are not allocated I/O Port space and a warning message appears during
Power-On Self-Test (POST) that indicates not all devices were allocated I/O resources, perform
one or more of the following potential workarounds:
• Flash the I/O Cards Offline in groups as follows:
1. Flash half of the I/O cards.
2. Reboot the system and enter RBSU.
3. Disable half of the I/O cards.
4. Reboot.
5. Flash the other half of the I/O cards
6. Reboot and re-enable all I/O cards.
• Use an Online Flash Tool, such as those available in the latest SmartStart or Smart Update
Firmware DVD.
Booting From An HBA Or NIC
Booting From An HBA Or NIC Is Not Supported When Installed in the HP DL980 G7 Server LP
PCIe I/O Expansion Module (Option Part Number AM434A) and May Prevent the Server From
Continuing to Boot. If booting a ProLiant DL980 G7 server from an installed HBA or NIC configured
in an LP PCIe I/O Expansion Module, the server may not boot and either of the following may be
observed:
• The offline HBA or NIC configuration utility cannot be accessed to configure the I/O.
• During operating system installation, there are missing LUNs in the OS installer. This is an
indication that the HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server has encountered an I/O port space limitation
and does not indicate an issue with the server hardware.
Booting from an HBA or NIC is not supported when the HBA or NIC is installed in an LP PCIe I/O
Expansion Module. Optional HBAs and/or NICs that are used to boot an operating system must
not be installed in the LP PCIe I/O Expansion Module on the HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server. Instead,
install the HBA or NIC in slots 1 through 11 , or through the 10 slots available on a HP ProLiant
DL980 G7 server configured with the Base I/O backplane and the optional combo PCI-X/PCI-e
I/O expander.
NC365T
The network link goes up and down with NC365T on HP ProLiant Server DL980 G7 when all these
conditions are met. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5..
1. System has >128 CPUs.
2. Two NC365T cards installed and at least one port of each card is used.
