HP ProLiant DL 980 G7 Server System Errata

6 HP System Health Application
Redundant power supply loss
If all available redundant power supplies in an N+N configuration are simultaneously lost on an
HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server, HP ProLiant DL580 G7, or HP ProLiant DL585 G7 server running
Linux, the server will schedule a shutdown and reboot approximately sixty seconds later if the HP
System Health Application and Command Line Utilities (hp-health) Version 8.70 is loaded.
NOTE: This will only occur if four of eight power supplies on the HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server
or two of four power supplies on the HP ProLiant DL580 G7 or HP ProLiant DL585 G7 server are
lost simultaneously. For example, if a test is being performed with the power supplies in a fully
redundant configuration, with two power feeds connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply
(UPS), and redundant power supplies are lost simultaneously, this issue will occur. This will not
occur if there is a small delay between power supply failures.
This is targeted to be resolved in a future version of the HP System Health Application and Command
Line Utilities (hp-health). As a workaround, unload the hp-health application by typing the following
commands:
1. /etc/hp-health stop
2. chkconfig hp-health off
This workaround will avoid the server from shutting down, but health functionality will not be
available. This will cause loss of availability of information from agents such as the Storage agent
and Server agent via System Management Homepage and the Integrated Management Log (IML).
