HP ProLiant DL 980 G7 Server System Errata
2 HP Management Agents
VMware
On a ProLiant DL980 G7 server running VMware ESX 4.1 and version 8.5.1 of the HP Management
Agents for VMware ESX, the server may appear to pause for more than five minutes during server
boot, causing an extended boot time. This occurs while the system is waiting for the hp-health
drivers to initialize, and the extended boot time may increase with the number of DIMMs installed
in the system. This occurs after the message "IPMI Based System Health Monitor (hpasmlited)" is
displayed.
The server will resume boot after approximately five minutes. A future version of the hp-health driver
will prevent the extended boot time from occurring. As a workaround, move the startup of the
health daemon into the background as follows:
1. Disable the automatic start of the hp-health services:
• # chkconfig hp-health off
• # chkconfig hp-asrd off
• # chkconfig hp-snmp-agents off
2. Dreate the following file in /opt/hp and copy the following contents into the file:
• File name: /opt/hp/Announce_Agents.sh
• File contents:
VMware 5
