HP assumes you are qualified in the servicing of computer equipment and trained in recognizing hazard in products with hazardous energy levels and are familiar with weight and stability precautions for rack installations.

1 Preparatory Procedures for NOS Installation NOS Installation Highlights This section is for expert users who are familiar with the standard installation process of their NOS. HP recommends taking into account the following specific information in order to adapt your usual NOS installation to the particularities of your HP ProLiant ML110 server. Listed below are the HP drivers required for specific NOSs. These drivers are provided on the HP ProLiant ML110 Server Startup CD-ROM.
Preparatory Procedures for NOS Installation Pre-NOS Installation Procedures Perform the two pre-NOS installation steps in this section before installing the NOS of your choice. These include: 1. Configure the hardware aspect of the server. 2. Update the server BIOS. Hardware Setup Prepare the server following the instructions in the HP ProLiant ML110 Server Installation Sheet.
Preparatory Procedures for NOS Installation 9. Press Esc to revert back the Main Menu page. 10. Press Esc again to close the utility. The server will automatically reboot. • If you are using the Adaptec 2120S controller, connect the hard disk drive to the controller following the instructions in the Adaptec 2120S User Guide. The RAID setup for this controller is performed at the BIOS level when the system starts up. 1. Turn on the monitor and the server.
Preparatory Procedures for NOS Installation BIOS Update For detailed procedures, refer to Chapter 5 of the HP ProLiant ML110 Server Operations and Maintenance Guide. BIOS Update Notes 1-4 • HP recommends that you update the server BIOS with the latest system BIOS version to take advantage of the most recent compatibility fixes. • You can download the latest HP ProLiant ML110 server BIOS at HP’s website at www.hp.com.
2 Installing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows Small Business Server 2003 Windows 2003 Pre-installation Instructions NOTE: For ease of reading, both “Microsoft Windows Server 2003” and “Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003” will be referred to as “Windows 2003” in this chapter; the HP ProLiant ML110 Server Startup CD-ROM will be simply referred to as the Startup CD. 1. Complete the pre-NOS installation procedures listed in Chapter 1. 2.

Creating the Driver Diskettes Create the appropriate Windows 2003 driver diskette to be labeled HP disk W2003. 1. Insert one blank, formatted 3.5" diskette into the PC’s floppy drive. 2. Insert the Startup CD into the PC’s CD-ROM drive. By default, the Startup CD will automatically run displaying the Welcome page. However, if this does not occur, double-click the Startup.
Installing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows Small Business Server 2003 The installer will format and copy files to the hard drive, after which the system will reboot and launch the Windows 2003 graphic interface. Be sure to remove the driver diskette before rebooting. You can now proceed through the customization of your installation using the graphical interface. NOTE: The network settings may need to be customized to your environment.
Installing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows Small Business Server 2003 Phase 2 - Installing the HP LAN Driver During the Windows 2003 installation, the OS may not detect the embedded HP network interface card. The following procedure will help you install the LAN driver using the Startup CD. 1. Insert the Startup CD in the server’s CD-ROM drive. By default, the Startup CD will automatically run displaying the Welcome page. Close this window. 2.
Installing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows Small Business Server 2003 c. Locate the Digital Signer. If the driver of that device is digitally signed then it will display "MS Windows 2003 Publisher" or "Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher”. If the driver of the device is not digitally signed we recommend that you check HP’s website at www.hp.com to install the latest driver package. Close the Device Manager, System Properties and Control Panel windows. 4.
Installing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows Small Business Server 2003 Phase 3 - Adding Terminal Server Services 1. Click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add Remove Programs. 2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components. 3. Locate then select the [Terminal Services] checkbox then click Next. 4. Select the mode you want to use then click Next. There are two mode options: Remote administration mode and Application server mode. NOTE: The following instructions are based on the Application server mode.

Insert the Client Installation diskette 1 in the floppy drive of the target workstation. 2. Run the setup.exe file in the diskette. 3. Click Continue at the Setup screen. 4. Complete the Name and Organization Information form. You will only be prompted to provide this information during the first time the diskettes are used. 5. Click OK to validate then OK again to confirm.
Installing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows Small Business Server 2003 Phase 2 - Attaching Clients to the Network and Testing the Network Link 1. Create a new folder in your server’s hard drive and set is as a shared folder (right-click the folder then select Sharing…). 2. Create users using the Windows 2003 Computer Management utility. To open the utility, click Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | Computer Management | System Tools | Local Users and Groups | Users. 3.

You may customize the options proposed by Windows 2003 to match your environment. 5. Click Next at Domain Controller Type to accept the default setting—Domain controller for a new domain. 6. Click Next at Create Tree or Child Domain to accept the default setting—Create a new domain tree. 7.

Click the Options button and verify that the Log on to: HOST displays on the dialog box. c. Click OK to start the login process. 23. Have the following installation requirements on hand: • HP ProLiant ML110 Server Startup CD-ROM (will be subsequently referred to as Startup CD) • Novell NetWare 5.1 CD-ROM and latest Support Pack CD-ROM • NetWare 5.1 licensing/cryptographic diskette • Four blank, formatted 3.
Installing Novell NetWare 5.1 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to create the HP ProLiant ML110 server NetWare SCSI driver diskette to be labeled HP disk NW SCSI. 4. Use the second diskette to create the LAN driver diskette to be labeled HP disk NW LAN. 5. Use the third diskette to create the Novell 5.1 patch to be labeled HP disk NW patch. 6. Use the fourth diskette to create the PSM4B diskette to be labeled HP disk PSM4B patch. NOTE: To create the HP disk PSM4B patch, download first the psm4b.
Installing Novell NetWare 5.1 8. Press Enter to continue. 9. Modify or accept the server settings, the regional settings, and the mouse and video configuration. Phase 2 - Installing the HP Drivers The installation program then detects your hardware and attempts to match the drivers to the hardware. It displays a Driver names summary screen. 1. If you have an IDE system, press Enter to continue.
Installing Novell NetWare 5.1 f. Scroll down and select Return to driver summary. g. Scroll down and keep Continue highlighted. h. Press Enter to continue. 3. The installation program displays the partitioning properties. HP recommends keeping the default value by selecting Continue. 4. Wait as the system performs the installation according to your settings. Phase 3 - Configuring the Network The installation proceeds under a graphical interface.
Installing Novell NetWare 5.1 7. Wait for about 15 seconds for the CD to be automatically mounted as a volume. After it is completely mounted the system should say: “Volume name” mounted successfully. Note the volume name (example: CSP8_CD1). 8. Type nwconfig. The NetWare Configuration Tool screen displays. 9. Scroll down to select Product Options. 10. Scroll up to select Install a Product Not Listed. 11. Press F3 and specify the path, including the volume name.
Installing Novell NetWare 5.1 Section 5. Installing Additional HP Accessories The HP ProLiant ML110 Server Startup CD-ROM includes the drivers for accessories compatible to your server. Refer to the product manual enclosed with the accessory for the detailed installation procedure and/or to the attached readme.txt file associated with the driver. The readme.txt file can be found on the appropriate driver diskette.

Insert the Startup CD into the PC’s CD-ROM drive. By default, the Startup CD will automatically run displaying the Welcome page. However, if this does not occur, double-click the Startup.htm file located on the root directory of the Startup CD. 3.

Create the appropriate directories and copy the necessary drivers and files to the DOS boot partition by issuing the following commands at the DOS prompt: C: MD \NWUPDATE CD \NWUPDATE 6. Insert the HP disk NW patch diskette you created earlier and enter: COPY A:\*.* 7. Remove the HP disk NW patch diskette and insert the Novell NetWare 6.0 CD-ROM in the drive, then reboot the server. 8. Select Continue with Existing Partition. 9.
Installing Novell NetWare 6.0 and Novell Small Business Suite If you have a SCSI, SCSI RAID, or IDE RAID model, you need to install the corresponding HP driver for such model (the SCSI driver proposed by default by NetWare does not install properly): a. Scroll down to choose Modify and press Enter. b. Scroll down to highlight the Storage Adapters item and press Enter. The installation program displays the drivers detected: a SCSI driver and a generic ATA/IDE/ATAPI Adapter driver (IDEATA.HAM). c.
Installing Novell NetWare 6.0 and Novell Small Business Suite 3. Wait while the system loads the new drivers. 4. Review the Volume SYS and Partition Properties screen. Click Modify if you want to make any changes, then press F10 to save your changes. 5. Click Continue after all changes have been applied. 6. Wait for a few minutes while system files are copied and the Novell NetWare 6.0 GUI is displayed. Phase 4 - Configuring the Network The installation proceeds under a graphical interface.

Select which components you wish to install and then click Next. 19. Set the server properties for your network and then click Next. 20. Set the authentication values for your network and then click Next. 21. Enter any IP addresses to enable CIFS on and then click Next. 22. Enter your share point settings and then click Next. 23.
Installing Novell NetWare 6.0 and Novell Small Business Suite 8. Type nwconfig. The NetWare Configuration Tool screen will open. 9. Scroll down to select Product Options. 10. Scroll up to select Install a Product Not Listed. 11. Press F3 and specify the path, including the volume name. For example: CSP8_CD1:\NW6SPx:\ where CSP8_CD is the volume name from step 7 and x is the version of support pack. 12. Press F10 to accept the default installation options.

Go to NCF File Options and select Edit Startup.ncf File, then press Enter. 8. Modify the startup.ncf file by entering the command lines below: ; LOAD MPS14.PSM LOAD ACPIDRV.PSM 9. The system will display a text menu. 3. Press I to perform new server installation. 4. Press A to set installation from the CD-ROM. 5. Press A for floppy restore method. 6. Press A for run mode to launch the installer. 7. Select the language you want to use for installation. 8.
Installing Novell NetWare 6.5 e. Click Insert to add a driver, and then click Insert again to add an unlisted driver. f. Press F3 and specify the path: A: then press Enter. The installation program will scan the floppy drive for compatible drivers and then automatically add the HP SCSI driver to the driver list. NOTE: The new HP driver may show the same device name description, however it is an updated version. g. Scroll down and select Return to driver summary. h. Scroll down and click Continue. i.

Have the following installation requirements on hand: • HP ProLiant ML110 Server Startup CD-ROM • Red Hat Linux 9.0 CD-ROMs (3 discs) • A Windows PC that has a: — Floppy drive — CD-ROM drive — Browser that supports HTML This requirement is for when you need to create driver diskettes from the Startup CD.
Installing Red Hat Linux 9.0 If you have a driver disk: a. Type the parameter below and then press Enter. linux dd b. Press Yes. c. Select the driver disk source, then press OK. d. Insert the driver disk, then press OK. e. Press No if you don’t want to load any additional driver disks. f. Press Skip to cancel CD media testing. g. Proceed to Phase 2 to continue with the installation. 2. Press Enter to start installation using the graphical interface.
Installing Red Hat Linux 9.0 Disk Partitioning Setup HP recommends using the default partitioning mode—Automatically partition, then click Next to continue. Automatic Partitioning Select Remove all partitions on this system, then click Next to continue. A Warning dialog box will display. Click Yes. Disk Setup Review the partition settings and modify it if necessary, then click Next to continue. Boot Loader Installation Review the boot loader configuration and modify it if necessary.
Installing Red Hat Linux 9.0 Set Root Password Enter a root password, then click Next to continue. Authentication Configuration Review and modify the configuration as necessary, then click Next to continue. Package Group Selection If you selected the Custom install option, pre-determined packages have already been selected. However, depending upon your network environment additional packages may be necessary. NOTE: Remember to select appropriate package groups that match your network settings (e.g.

After completing the installation, click Exit to close the installation program. The system reboots and loads your new Red Hat environment. Section 2.
