Overview
This document contains instructions for installing a hot-plug hard
drive cage.
For more information on preparing the server for installation, see the
documentation referenced on the HP Server product CD.

Read the installation instructions completely before beginning the
installation procedure. For more information, see the Important

CAUTION: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage
electronic components. Be sure you are properly
grounded (earthed) before beginning an installation
procedure..
Installation guidelines
This installation must be performed by qualified personnel who are
knowledgeable of the procedures, precautions, and hazards
associated with equipment containing hazardous energy circuits.

Item Description
1 Upper hard drive area (bays1-4)
2 Lower hard drive area (bays 5-8)
NOTE: Both the upper and lower bay areas can support a hot-
plug hard drive cage. Additionally, before using the hard drive
cage, make sure a 750 W redundant power supply is installed
in the system.
Installing the hard drive cage
1. Shut down the operating system.
2. Power down the server.
3. Disconnect the external power cords from the server.
4. If necessary, unlock the front bezel.
5. Loosen the access panel thumbscrews, and then remove the
panel.
6. Remove the front bezel.
7. Remove the mounting screws for the shield covering the lower
hard drive area, and then remove the shield.

8. Remove the hard drive fan assembly:
a. Press the fan holder release tab to disengage the assembly
from the chassis.
b. Lift the assembly away from the chassis.
c. Disconnect the fan cable from system board connector.

9. Slide the hot-plug hard drive cage into the empty hard drive
cage area, and then secure the cage with the mounting screws.
