Data
If the operating system has a failure that m ight result from corrupt system files, a corrupt registry, or the
system hangs during boot, refer to "System installation and recovery" on page 121.
Be sure to back up your user data, and then use the System Installation and Recovery DVD to restore the
server to
the factory default state as soon as conveniently possible.
Four-HDD configurations
When four HDDs are included with the storage servers, they are configured for hardware RAID 5 fault
tolerance using HP 6–port SATA RAID controller.
The HDDs are hot-pluggable and hot-swappable. The drives can be removed and installed with the power
on, and the Adaptec controller determines whether a rebuild of a drive is necessary.
NOTE:
With HP Storage M anager, logical disks are labeled 1, 2, and so on. In Microsoft Disk Manager, logical
disks are displayed as 0, 1, and so on. Information about HP Storage Manager can be obtained from

The logical drives reside on all four physical disks as shown i n Figure 7.TheDON’TERASElogicaldrive

recovery. Redundancy is ensured in the event of a drive failure.
