File Server Management Console
The File Server Management (FSM) snap-in provides a centralized tool for managing your le server. A
le server provides a central lo cation on your net work where you c an store and share les with users
across your net work. Using the FS M snap-in, you can perform many le server management tasks, such
as formatting volumes, creating shares, defragmenting volumes, creating and m anaging shares, setting
quota limits, creating storage utilization reports, replicating data to and from the le server, ma naging
StorageAreaNetworks(SANs),andsharingles with UNIX and Macintosh systems.
Storag e Manager for SANs
The Storage Manager for SANs (also called Simple SAN) snap-in enables you to create and manage the
LUNs that are used to allocate space on storage arrays. Storage Manager for SANs can be used on
SANs that support Virtual D isk Server (VDS). It can be used in both Fibre Channel and iSCSI environments.
For more information on Storage Manager for SANs, refer to the online H elp. A Microsoft d ocument

Single Instance Storage
Single Instance Storage (SIS) provides a copy-on-write link between multiple les. Disk space is recovered
by reducing the amount of redundant data stored on a server. If a user has two les sharing disk stora ge
by using SIS, and someone modies one of the les, users of the other les do not see the changes. The
underlying shared disk storage that backs SIS links is ma intained by the system and is only deleted if
