HP ProLiant ML310 G3 Storage Server Administration Guide (WSS R2 version, March 2006)
Figure 15 Expanding a LUN (Smart Array only)
NOTE:
The Expand Array task is listed only if there is an unassigned physical drive on the controller. The
unassigned drive must also have a capacity of no less than that of a drive in an existing array. If these
conditions are not fulfilled,installatleastonesuitabledriveonthecontroller,andthenclickRefresh.
Adding storage scenarios (Smart Array storage arrays only):
• Add an unassigned physical disk to the array.
• Add a new disk to the appropriate storage device.
For more information, use the ACU online Help, or the procedures to “Expand Array” in the Array
Configuration Utility User Guide.
Expand logical d rive
This option in the ACU increases the storage capacity of a logical drive by ad ding unused space on an
array to the logical drive on the same array. The unused space is obtained either by expanding an array
or by deleting another logical drive on the same array.
Adding storage scenarios (Smart Array storage arrays only):
• Extend an existing storage LUN where space is available in the array.
• Extend an existing storage LU N where space is not available in the a rray (Smart Array only).
For more information, use the ACU online Help, or the procedures to “Extend logical drive” in the
Array Configuration Utility User Guide.
Extending storage using Windows Storage Utilities
Volume extension grows the storage space of a logical drive. During this process, the administrator adds
new storage space to a n existing logical drive on the same array, usually after the array has been
expanded. An administrator may have gained this new storage space by either expansion or by deleting
