Installing a Tape Drive
IMPORTANT: When installing a tape drive, remove the rails included in the drive tray and
install them onto the tape drive, replacing any existing rails. The rails are secured to the
drive tray with two screws on each rail.
NOTE: If installing an ATAPI tape drive, see Cabling an ATAPI Tape Drive in Chapter 4,
Cabling Guidelines, for specific cabling information.
To install a tape drive:
1. Follow the steps in Preparing the Server earlier this chapter.
2. Configure the device.
G For SCSI devices, set the SCSI ID on the drive. You must manually
set the SCSI ID on each device to a unique value in the range of 0 to
6 for each SCSI bus. Refer to the documentation provided with the
device for instructions on how to set the SCSI ID.
G For ATA devices, make sure that the jumper on the drive is set to
Cable Select (CS) so that the primary and secondary drives are
determined by the cable. Refer to Chapter 4, Cabling Guidelines,
for further information.
3. Remove the rails from the drive tray, and then install them onto the tape
drive.
