Accessing Processors and the System Board
To access the system board, use the following procedure:
1. Back up the server data.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury from electrical shock, remove all power
cords to completely disconnect power from the system.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the
internal system components to cool before touching them.
CAUTION: Electrostatic discharge can damage electronic components. Be sure
you are properly grounded before beginning any installation procedure.
2. Shut down the operating system in an orderly manner as directed in the
operating system instructions.
3. If the server is on, press the Power On/Standby switch to put the system
into the Standby state.
4. Verify that the first system LED on the front panel, located nearest to
the Power On/Standby switch, turns amber for Standby, and that all fans
stop spinning.
IMPORTANT: The system power in the ProLiant ML530 server does not completely shut
off with the front panel Power On/Standby switch. The two positions of the switch function
as On and Standby, rather than On and Off. The Standby position removes power from
most of the electronics and the drives but portions of the power supply and some internal
circuitry remain active. Consequently, to completely remove all power from the system,
you must disconnect the power cord from the server. In systems with multiple power
supplies, you must disconnect all the power cords to completely remove power from the
system.
NOTE: After you press the Power On/Standby switch, putting the server into the Standby
state, it may take the operating system from a few seconds up to several minutes to shut
down the power. Wait for the power status LED indicator to turn amber.
5. Disconnect any other external equipment connected to the computer.
6. Disconnect the power cords after the system shuts down. See Chapter 3,
“ProLiant ML530 Server Installation.”
7. Disconnect any other external equipment connected to the computer.
