Chapter 3
Server Installation
This chapter provides the procedures required for preparing a ProLiant ML530
server. Included in this chapter is the procedure to mount a Compaq ProLiant
into a Compaq or industry-standard 19-inch rack, and to complete installation.
Preparing the ProLiant ML530 Server
Installing the server requires the following steps (detailed later in this chapter):
1. Select a site and unpack the server. See the next sections, “Optimum
Environment,” and “Unpacking the Server,” in this chapter.
2. Install any expansion boards or other options such as additional
memory (optional). You will need to run the System Configuration
Utility after you install some hardware options, with the exception of
additional memory and most PCI boards. Refer to the Server Setup and
Management pack shipped with your server to run the System
Configuration Utility. See Chapter 2, “Installing Hardware Options,” to
install many of the major options.
3. Verify system configuration switch settings. Refer to the Compaq
ProLiant ML530 Hardware Installation and Configuration poster
included in the shipping box or to the hood labels on the top access
panel and on the sides of the processor.
4. If your have a rack model server, install the chassis in the rack. See
the section, “Rack Warnings and Precautions,” later in this chapter.
