Known issues and workarounds
This section outlines potential issues that you may encounter with vSphere 5.1 SR-IOV enablement and ProLiant servers
(Table 3). We are actively working to resolve all issues.
Table 3.
Known issues with vSphere 5.1 SR-IOV and ProLiant servers.
No VFs are enumerated if the first PF is not configured with one or more VFs
Description If the VF enumeration parameters are defined with the first PF value as 0 (zero), no VFs
are enumerated on any subsequent PFs. As an example, if the following driver
configuration parameters are utilized, then this issue will be exhibited:
# esxcli system module parameters set --module ixgbe --parameter-
string=max_vfs=0,10
Workaround/Solution Change the PFs selected for enumerating VFs. The value of 0 (zero) is acceptable for any
other PF as shown in the example below:
# esxcli system module parameters set --module ixgbe --parameter-
string=max_vfs=10,0
No VFs are enumerated when the PF is attached to a 1Gb switch port
Description If the PF is attached to a 1Gb switch port, then the VFs will not be enumerated. A 10Gb
connection is required.
Workaround/Solution Connect the PF to a 10Gb switch port and reboot the ESXi host.
